Frequently asked questions
Which skirts suit curvy hips and a smaller waist?
Wrap skirts and bias-cut skirts are your best friends. A wrap tie lets you cinch in at your waist, and the fabric falls over your hips without clinging. Bias-cut skirts are cut on an angle, so they drape and move with your curves instead of pulling across them. Midi lengths look especially good, finishing below the knee and giving a long, graceful line.
Mini, midi or maxi: which length for work or a night out?
Midi is the hero for work. It’s polished, easy to sit in and works with flats or heels. Maxi skirts are relaxed and breezy for weekends, and dress up beautifully at night with a heel and a statement top. Minis are made for fun nights out, and look great with opaque tights and boots in the cooler months. Honestly, wear the length you love. There are no age rules here.
What are your skirts made from, and how do I care for them?
Our skirts come in linen, denim, crochet and fluid woven fabrics. Linen is cool and breathable but creases easily, so hang it straight after washing or give it a quick steam. Denim is easy-care and only needs a cold wash inside out. Crochet should be washed gently, laid flat to dry and never wrung. Check the care label on each skirt for specific instructions.
What size should I order if I’m between sizes?
Our skirts come in sizes 8 to 20. Go by your waist and hip measurements on the size guide. If you’re between sizes, size up for fitted styles and stay in your usual size for wrap skirts, as the tie lets you adjust the waist. Not sure? Our team can help at customercare@motto.com.au.
Are your skirts lined, or will they be see-through?
All of our skirts are lined, or made in fabrics with enough weight that they aren’t see-through. Crochet and lace styles are designed to show a little texture and have shorter linings, we maintain a modest length to be fun and flirty but not revealing. Check the product details for lining description. Each product page tells you the length of lining.
Do any skirts have adjustable ties or slits?
Yes. Our wrap skirts tie at the waist so you can adjust the fit throughout the day. Some styles, like our Madrid bias skirts, have a side slit that adds movement and makes them easy to walk in, and it shows a little leg when you want it to.
What tops go best with skirts for the office?
A Blogger Shirt is our go-to. Tuck it in or half-tuck it at the front to show your waist above a midi skirt. A fine knit or a fitted top with a blazer also looks great. Add colour on top if your skirt is neutral, and you’re ready for anything after work.
What if it doesn’t fit? Can I exchange or return it?
Absolutely. You’ve got 30 days to return or exchange. Returns are free within Australia for full-priced items. Just lodge your return through our Australia Post returns portal, pop the pink returns form in your parcel and drop it at any post office or red post box. You can choose a refund to your original payment method, an exchange for another size, or store credit that never expires. Sale items can be returned at your own postage cost, and items marked Final Sale can’t be returned unless faulty. Prefer to do it in person? You can also return to any Motto store. Questions? Can I try them on in store?
Yes! We have five stores around Melbourne: Brighton, Mornington, Niddrie, The Pines in Doncaster East, and Williamstown.
